My great grandfather Jasper Collins was born in Jones county, Mississippi in 1827 and died there in 1913. Along with Newton Knight he is best known as one of the leaders of” The Free State of Jones” rebellion in Jones County. The movie The Free State of Jones, based on the book, of the same name, by Victoria Bynum was released in 2016.
This is Jasper in front of his house in Jones County, Ms, with my mom Vivian on the left and her sister Virginia. They were the children of Jasper”s son Loren Riley Collins.
Vivian around 16 years old. Her nickname was “cotton top”.
